Illustration Friday - Snow

Another post for Illustration Friday - couldn't resist this one as I've just received my draft copy of a new book that I illustrated for Little Tiger Press called Dear Snowman which will be published next year. It's by Kathryn White and I'm excited about it because it's a lovely story - a real twist on the usual snowman books - and there are little extras such as postcards and stickers as well.
Here's one of the illustrations and a tiny bit of the story - a sneak preview for you!

That night, as Little Rabbit slept, the snow fell faster and faster. And something wonderful happened...

Illustration Friday - Tree

This is the first time in ages I've had a chance to update my blog - sorry for being remiss but I've been happily working away on another book for Little Tiger Press called 'Dear Snowman' and I just finished it yesterday - hurrah! Starting a sweet new one for Franklin Watts next week so I'm squeezing in a post for Illustration Friday's subject this week - Tree

This is an illustration I did for Red House Children's Book Awards last year after my book 'Yuck! That's Not a Monster!' won the Younger Reader prize in 2011. It was used in the publicity for last year's prize.
I thought it fitted the bill perfectly!

On a Starry Night

Just had my copies of On a Starry Night delivered - I love to see books that I have illustrated for the first time in the flesh! This is one of a number of books that I've done for Stripes Publishing - it has 10 great little stories all on a wintery theme by different authors. I illustrated the cover and all the drawings inside too!

Edinburgh Book Festival 2012

Just back from Edinburgh - this is the third year I've done an event up there and this year I did two! The festival was wonderful as usual and the weather was warm and sunny!! We had full houses at both events. The first one I did was with Tracey Corderoy, the author of 'Just One More' and we did storytelling, made our own book from scratch and all the children made beautiful rockets - all in under an hour!

The next day I did an event on my own - the story I read (voted for by the children) was 'Yuck! That's not a Monster!' and we made another brilliant book and then all the children made their own Little Rabbits to take home.

I love Edinburgh - fingers crossed they ask me to go back next year!

Sunday, 10 June 2012

I've not had much time to keep up with my blog lately - things have been busy, busy, busy with lots of projects on the go at once - it's all good! I've been working on new books for a couple of months - here are sneak previews of the ones I'm doing for Igloo Books and Thomas Nelson.

Hay Festival 2012

I did three events at Hay this year - Just One More (with Tracey Corderoy), A Little Fairy Magic and Yuck! That's not a Monster! and lots of fantastic children came along to help us make sparkly rockets, furry mice and scary monsters! We had stories, made our own book from scratch, invented monsters and did magic tricks with fairy spells! In spite of the mud and rain we had lots of fun. Apologies to anyone who tried to get signed copies of my books as there were some gremlins in the supply chain and the bookshop supply ran out a bit early.

wearing a fairy costume as a shameless publicity stunt!

lots of concentration to do drawing magic (and I wasn't the only one wearing a fairy costume!)

With Tracey Corderoy, author of Just One More

I think I've got their attention!
